Birds Eye View of Lucknow, in Northern India. Lucknow is situated in the middle of the Indo-Gangetic plain, and is divided by the Gomti river, which flows through the city. Throughout its history, Lucknow was ruled by the Delhi Sultanate, the Sharqi Sultanate, the Mughal Empire, the Nawabs of Awadh, the British East India Company, and the British Raj. It was one of the major centers of the Indian Sepoy Revolt in 1857.

Battle of Miani, or the Capture of Sindh. The Battle of Miani was between British forces, led by Sir Charles Napier, and the Talpur Amirs of Sindh. The battle took place in modern day Pakistan on February 7, 1843.
